New data from the NMPA shows that 172 new domestic functional cosmetic ingredients were filed in H1 2026, a 101% YoY surge. Synthetic biology, plant fermentation repairing agents, and whitening ingredients are leading the trend.

At this year's PCHi exhibition, several homegrown peptides and fermented plant extracts made their global debut, challenging the long-standing dominance of Western suppliers. Backed by domestic biotech breakthroughs, these high-activity repairing ingredients are now in mass production with a 35% cost reduction, catering to sensitive skin and post-procedure care.

Regulatory reforms are also accelerating growth. New guidelines have streamlined the approval process for characteristic plant ingredients, cutting down filing times. For manufacturers, mature domestic ingredients lower formulation costs and reduce import supply chain risks. Meanwhile, contract manufacturers with in-house testing labs and GMP-certified lines are perfectly positioned to capture the growing demand for high-efficacy product development.
